Thunder Bay’s Nathan Gunn Signs with Bellator

Posted March 23, 2012 by in News, Sports, Thunder Bay News | No comments yet

Thunder Bay’s Nathan “Gunner” Gunn  has just been signed with the big fight promotion Bellator and looks to debut with the promotion come May 4th in Rama, Ontario. Nathan is currently coming off two wins, one in which made him the Wreck Welterweight champion in a decisive 5 round battle in which Gunn beat Nabil Khatib.

It also appears Nathan’s teamate Matt Veal from the Leading Edge gym will also be fighting on the same card, another up and coming Thunder Bay fighter coming off a recent win. The card in Rama looks great as so far other fellow Canadians Ryan Ford and Cory MacDonald are also scheduled to fight. Currently Mr. Gunn does not have an opponent but I am pretty sure whoever it may be they can expect a battle!

Thunder Bay’s Nathan Gunn Wins Wreck WelterWeight Title

Posted October 29, 2011 by in News, Sports, Thunder Bay News | No comments yet

Nathan Gunn Becomes Wreck Welterweight Champion
Thunder Bay’s Nathan Gunn brought the thunder to Ottawa as he bullied Nabil “The Thril” Khatib in a five round war which saw both fighters put it all out on the line round after round for the vacant Wreck Welterweight title.  Nabil showed lots of heart in the first round narrowly escaping as Gunn almost finished him on multiple occasions.  The entire fight was a back and forth war as each round Nathan Gunn constantly pressed the action with flurries of punches,  knees and even flying knees. Nabil made late attempts to win rounds with takedowns which was never enough to win him the fight as it seemed Gunn was always first to the punch.  Gunn fended off numerous submission attempts by Khatib and remained composed even taking the fight to Khatib from the bottom.

The Outcome

Referee Yves Lavigne and the judges did an excellent job as they scored the fight correctly and allowed the fighters to fight and not just clinch.   Nathan “Gunner” Gunn wins a Unanimous Decision (49-46) and becomes the new Wreck welterweight champion and will go on to fight another title fight with the Wreck promotion which could potentially land him on a road to the UFC.  Great showing by Gunn as fight after fight he continues to show that he belongs in the cage with the top fighters and looks to be a force to deal with on his feet for any opponent at Welterweight. Thunder Bay’s Nathan Gunn Defeats Winnipeg’s Lindsey Hawkes

Posted May 6, 2011 by in Sports | No comments yet

Nathan Gunn moves to 8-2 with a second round stoppage of Lindsey Hawkes at Wreck Unstoppable which was held in the Casino Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec on May 6th, 2011.  The fight started off with a flurry with Nathan rushing and dropping Hawkes which lead to a cut under the eye and some great ground and pound throughout the round.

In the last minute of the first round the two were clinching against the cage and Nathan was caught in a standing guillotine which Lindsey then dropped the submission to the ground and Nathan Gunn showed some very epic determination as he was able to break the choke and win the round.

The second round started the same as the first round as Gunn stormed Lindsey with powerful flurries which eventually lead to the Doctor stopping the fight with what was said to be a possible broken orbital bone.  Great win for Thunder Bay Mma and the Leading Edge Gym as he captured the Fight of the Night and goes on to fight for a title!

Next up for Nathan Gunn

* Nathan Gunn will fight Nabil Khatib for the Welterweight title at the next WRECK Mma event.
