Taking shape

Posted April 16, 2011 in News | No comments yet

The city offered up a short tour Friday of the public buildings currently under construction at Prince Arthur’s Landing.
The media was invited to walk through what will be Mariner’s Hall and the Baggage Building Art Centre. Construction of the Mariner’s Hall and Baggage Building is still underway but it’s starting to take shape.
On display were the Mariner’s Hall exhibition space and the area where people will change in and out of their bathing suits in the summer and skates in the winter. The cement has been poured for the splash pad and ice rink. Both buildings are expected to be substantially complete by the end of May. Coun. Iain Angus said he thinks the development will have a positive impact on the downtown.
Two more contracts will be ratified by city council on Monday night with work getting underway on landscaping and furnishing of the site soon. Waterfront Project Manager Katherine Dugmore said it will be a lot of work to coordinate.
